Your Donations are Changing the Lives of Low Income Youth in Ottawa

YouthZoom program offers "first computer job" for kids in Ottawa

In 2011 CompuCorps.Org developed a new edition of the Youth Zoom program with support from the Ottawa Police Service and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services of Ontario. We had 5 groups of 8 kids, age 12 to 15, that were trained in computer refurbishment. Each youth received 30 hours of paid work during 5 consecutive Saturdays. The kids were mentored by volunteer IT Techmentors from different IT corporations in Ottawa. The computers they refurbished are going to be sent to low-income families in Ottawa and to Aboriginal kids in Kashechewan, Ontario.

With $500 your company could support one week of the YouthZoom program in 2012. Otherwise, the program could be cancelled. Please, consider donating NOW !

For more information see the flyer for Individuals and Corporate.

Solar Energy Project

Compucorps.org will be building a 10KW solar energy system on our TechCentre rooftop to create green energy for our laptop recharge stations and to support ongoing operations.  We need funding for the installation of 44 solar panels on our rooftop by June 2011.

We are looking for project volunteers and corporate donations.  Help the environment and our community by donating $25 for each solar cell or sponsoring an entire solar panel for $1800.  Be publicly recognized on our online solar wall with your name and logo to show your support!

TechReuse

TechReuse is CompuCorps' most visible program because it interacts directly with the community and has been featured in the news many times. TechReuse helps bridge the digital divide through affordable technology.

The program is the basis for many activities undertaken by CompuCorps. The program itself consists of receiving donations of high tech equipment, refurbishing this equipment and redistributing it within the community to those who need it most.

The entire process relies heavily on donations and volunteers.

Volunteering

Volunteer as a TechMentor on a short-term technology project with a non-profit organization or community group. We will work with you to identify projects that match your preferences, skills and schedule.

Volunteering will give you the opportunity to develop new skills, meet new people, support the non-profit sector, and make a difference to the community you live in.

You will be asked to offer 30-40 volunteer hours to a non-profit or community project, to be completed within a 3 month period. There is flexibility to work from home, in your free time, and depending on the project, to be a virtual TechMentor, regardless of which province you live in or where the non-profit organization is located in Canada.
